he was just a boy . . .

I am a huge fan of Tim Russert. He was one of those talking heads who actually had something IN his head. He did his homework, treated his guests with infinite patience, respect and humor. I didn't always agree, but I was never disappointed. Only 58. A mere lad.

What a shocker this is. Very sad.

Shocking, yes. And sad, not only for his family (imagine, he has an 80-year-old father who now must bury his own son) but for those of us who clung to Russert's clear-headed and intelligent approach to informing us. In the media world of ever louder, nastier, sillier and deliberately misleading voices, Tim Russert's was a haven. There are precious few of those voices left, and I fear once they are all gone there will be none left to act as models of what true journalism ought to be. It will take me a while to get used to the loss of someone who was so vividly alive.
