the doors
What you see on the streets of San Miguel are, for the most part, flat walls, a front door, sometimes a window. It’s what behind those doors that is always surprising. People differentiate their flat walls with brilliant paint, and their entryways with frequently elaborate doors and door decorations. Take a look.
This one is probably the most elaborate one I’ve seen.
Note the two-color wall and the tile band separating the pale yellow from the red. The next door neighbor had bright gold on top of red.
These ornately carved doors are in an otherwise rather tumble-down building.
I love the colors of the wall and the door together. Pure San Miguel.
This fist motif is very common throughout town.
This is the front door on a house that has a gallery in the garden. The little tiled peephole is opened when you knock using the gecko. I love these doorknockers but they would rust in a minute at the beach.
